A writer learns so much from writing an entire story. Very first stories are publishable, but the experience is invaluable. I recommend you write an entire story. Put it aside and start another story. After that draft is finished, edit the first story. Keep repeating the process.

IMHO writer's block is what you experience when you aren't sure where your story is going or you know you want it to go from here to there but aren't sure how to get it there. We don't want to write something we'll later have to cut :), so we sit and hope for divine intervention. If you are blocked, walk away from the computer and take a bath, do dishes, dust, or some mundane task. That frees your mind up to think about your story. You'd be surprised at how many books are saved in the bathtub!

When I come up with a new story idea and populate it with people, it starts nagging at me to get it written. Whenever I do mindless things like dishes, cooking, etc., I think about the story and rush through housework so I can get to the keyboard to write. If for any reason I am not inspired, then I talk to my writer friends about the story and that will get the juices flowing again.

I met two other authors in Navasota, Texas, to spend a weekend writing and brainstorming. One worked on her current story. So I and the other writer set the timer for five minutes and came up with as many opening lines as we could. One of the ten or so I wrote down was: The woman was a goddess with long, shapely legs that would wrap around his hips, a tight ass he could hold onto, and a set of generous tits that made his mouth water. Only his best friend’s little sister was a nice girl. And Tate didn’t do nice.
