Sharon Noble Arrrrrgggghhhhh. Not well. Unfortunately, I write by the seat of my pants, not with an outline, so I don't have a go-to that can give me a much-needed shove. I just have to wait until it resolves itself. My son has a thousand ideas, so sometimes I take him to brunch and pick his brain. I lay out my block, and he frequently can suggest two or three solutions.
Sharon Noble This may sound a little silly, but the best thing for me is to pick up one of my books, read a chapter, and revisit the characters I found so interesting when I was writing. They become part of my family. I think that's what keeps writers writing.
Sharon Noble Read, read, read, and then read some more. Then find your own niche. Write what you like to read, otherwise you'll get stuck. I also don't recommend asking friends to read your book as you're writing, although some writers find it useful. I find it distracting because everyone you ask will have something different to say.
Sharon Noble I'm rolling a plot around in my head about a NY lawyer who inherits a castle in some European country, but she doesn't want it. So she flies there to put it on the market to sell it, but . . . . . .
Sharon Noble Strange, the inspiration comes suddenly and without warning. Once I was just sitting at the computer, doing nothing really, and I heard the first line of Autumn Desire in my head. Another time, I was walking my dogs, and the first line of Passion's Design came into my head. I have to write it down fast, though, or it escapes.
Sharon Noble Thanks for the question. I was on a trip to England with my daughter, and, since we are Tudor fanatics, we visited the sites I mention in my book, Velvet and Topaz, and the idea came to me when I was at Hampton Court Palace. I used characteristics of people I know, people I've met, and some of my own. I had such fun writing that book!
