Coffee, chocolate, and CrossFit. Not necessarily in that order. :-) Seriously, I usually take a little while to dig a little deeper into the scene. Sometimes a little research reveals the nugget I need to move forward. Other times, I reach out to my writing mentor for a brainstorming session. She's usually able to help me dig out of whatever hole I've written myself into!

The DuPont State Forest lies between Brevard, NC and Hendersonville, NC. There are beautiful waterfalls and trails there now, but when I was growing up in that area the land was owned by the DuPont corporation and wasn’t open to the public. That sparked the concept of a local family owning large swaths of land around their manufacturing facility. The rest of the story developed over several years as I played with the idea.

Lots of things inspire me, but when I am feeling completely drained there's nothing like live theatre or live musical performances to recharge my creative batteries. Something about watching art come to life in front of me always leaves me eager to face the keyboard and create something beautiful.

I'm working on Caroline Harrison's story. Caroline is the sister of Blake Harrison, the hero in Covert Justice. The new book will stand alone, but readers of Covert Justice will enjoy getting a peek into the lives of the Harrison family a year after Covert Justice concludes.

My favorite moments are when I'm writing, and I think I know where the story is going and then the characters take over and do things I wasn't expecting. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it's always fun to explore something new and unplanned in the story.
