I've been a writer for decades so I find you can't really wait for inspiration. Even if you don't feel like writing you have to sit down and try. Often I begin not writing very well but after a while my mind limbers up and it gets better.

From a short video in my Sunday School class that mentioned the wife of the Apostle. The notion hit me between the eyes, what must it have been like to be the wife of Peter? I immediately began doing research to see if anyone else had ever broached the subject. They had not, so I dove in.
