Jaffrey Clark Now that summer is nearly over, I've had a bunch, but I only read a few. I've been on a bit of a Young Adult Fantasy kick. I finshed The Green Ember after nibbling away at it for along time, then woofed down Ember Falls, and now I'm working my way through Ember Rising. Gotta get ready for book 4!

I also finished "North! Or be Eaten" from the Wingfeather Saga. This series was harder to persevere in, but I like it for similar reasons as The Green Ember Series in that is builds, and improves as you move from one adventure to another.

I wish I could read more, but I'm slow, and have so little time.
Jaffrey Clark In the dark of the room she saw two cold, moonlit eyes blink at her slowly. Feeling along the wall she reached for the light switch, flipped it, and unleashed a scream that shattered the night.
Jaffrey Clark The answer to this question would undoubtedly lead to a psychological mystery thriller. And, it would revolve around the tension that I see in my own life of believing something is true, knowing something is true, but then living like it is not. And I'm talking about deeply held emotional and spiritual truths. When I am able to believe and live out what I know to be true - ex. God is in control, AND Good, life is simply amazing. Joy is present and no amount of obstacles get me down. When I slide into thinking I have to get it all done on my own, by myself, I spiral into disappointment, anger, frustration, etc, etc.
Jaffrey Clark It is a total conglomerate of things that have exciting me in story over the past decade. While it's not the only writing project I've done or started, it's a massive grouping of favorite ideas, to be sure. However, the Bible is hands down my strongest inspiration.
Jaffrey Clark Reality. I know that sounds funny for a guy who is writing a fantasy, but it's true. For example, read the Bible. They are historical records, grouped together to show and tell the story of salvation for mankind as God has provided in Himself. There is nothing tame, "normal," expected or ho-hum about the Bible. It is the longest, bloodiest, most exciting marathon of a love and justice story in the world. It will never and can never be out-done.
Jaffrey Clark Book 2 - 4 of the Reaper's Seed. Actually, I don't think of it in books so much as I am thinking of it as a story that carries on until completion is found. Where one book ends and another begins are like notches in a belt - there is usually more than one that will fit, but definitely not more than three.
Jaffrey Clark Read writing that transports. Take note of descriptions from conversations, writing, movies, etc that cause images to birth in your mind. That's the kind of description you want to be able to provide yourself as you write. And remember that, just because you envisioned it, doesn't mean you captured that in your writing, in your words. Connecting a good imagination with colorful description is the huge challenge, and the key.
Jaffrey Clark Creating one's own escape, or reality - in a good way. (As opposed to trying to escape responsibilities in life.) I don't need someone to help me unwind. I can just day dream, pulling in things I see and hear and adding them to my inner story.
Jaffrey Clark I seldom get writers block because I've never really tried to force a lot of material in a short period of time. That said, when struggling for the answer to a question I have about a character, or a plot progression, and how on earth I'm going to reconcile things for a believable, and convincing story, I simply think. I don't write with pen or keys, I write with my imagination. I day dream about the possibilities, and test them as believable or not. Like an internal chess game. Once I feel like I have a clear bearing, I attack the key board with my relentless, unrefined pecking. Then I go back and read, and edit multiple times.
