At the time of the question I was working on a book about decision crises. That book is now finished and I'm reviewing the final proofs.
Today (late April), I'm revisiting a manuscript that has been on hold for quite a while. A popular science book, Elementary Beings explores how all life, from the might blue whale to the humble earthworm is merely a mix bag of 20 or so elements.

Carol Jordan and Tony Hill - characters by Val McDermid. They are not a couple in the traditional sense. I enjoy how complex their relationship is, and how neither character has the 'upper hand'. They are both strong, both contribute, and have - what seems to me - an equal partnership. They are both flawed, and accepting of that.

I write non-fiction and I haven't experienced writers block yet. I just write, and work through what I need to do. When going through a rough patch, I'll print off what I'm working on and take it to a café with a pen. I find it easier to think properly with a pen in hand rather than typing on a keyboard.

I try not to need inspiration. Writing is what I do, it is a job. I get up and I write. If I waited for inspiration, the books would never get finished.
Saying that, what keeps me inspired is the dream that one day, writing can be my only job.

There are many good things, but my favourites are:
1. Being creative. Writers are creative creatures and writing allows us to fulfil this need.
2. Research. I am a curious person. Writing allows me to research interesting topics.
3. Structuring a book. This may seem strange, but I love working out the structure of a book or short piece of writing. I was, at one stage, considering a career in engineering.
