This story ended when I was about 14 years old. My father and brother Dick were no longer in my life. I never saw my natural father again after the age of ten and he died in 1975. My brother, who did spend time in jail for other things, died in 1971 in an auto accident.
Child protective services were only in their infancy in the 1950s and 60s, no one recognized much of what was done as a crime. Women did not have the rights that we have today.
The Undoing is a work of creative nonfiction. This means that the book is true in the basis of fact but enhanced by creative description of scenery, dialogue and character description.
