Kelly Batten Hi Lukas! So sorry it's taken me so long to reply! I didn't realise I'd been asked a question (whoops!). Ok. Well, here goes: I must say I've never read 50 Shades of Grey and don't intend to, and sadly I don't know who Anais Nin is either, but as for why young women read books like 50 Shades... maybe because it's easy to read? Because it easily satisfies some desire inside them? It's enlightening on... such things? Who really knows? Maybe simply because they want to know what all the fuss is about, to feel on top of the times. I don't really read erotica, just romances by Jamie McGuire, Abbi Glines, Colleen Hoover, those kind of people. That's the best answer I can give =)
Kelly Batten A bucket list story called The Fiche List. It's YA and available to read as I write it on Wattpad: http://www.wattpad.com/story/27991540... I'm having a blast writing it, so I hope you enjoy reading it!
Kelly Batten Simple. I don't. =) If I can't find the words to finish a scene or build the following scenes, I just shut my laptop and stop thinking about it. I then read heaps of books to regain my reader's perspective and maybe a day or a week or even a month later, I go back after the story has been quietly toiling away in the back of my mind and pick up where I left off. There's no point stressing about it, because in my opinion, that will only keep you stuck for longer.
Kelly Batten The best thing about being a writer is experiencing different worlds from what I've ever experienced. I'm an introverted and hardly social person, so I like stretching my brain to be characters who are my opposite, thus experiencing things I don't in my own life and creating fictional memories to take the lack of real ones' places.
Kelly Batten If you only get an inch, or even just a mm, run with it further than just the finish line. Turn a 100m race into a 1500m race. Don't let anything stop your dreams coming true. Because somewhere inside you are the words you need to finish your book, and somewhere out there are the thousands of people who want to read your book but don't know it yet. And don't beat yourself up if you can't find the words right now. Maybe, like me, you just haven't experienced the inspiration yet. But it will find you, so keep smiling and your head held high!
Kelly Batten Inspiration comes and goes, much like waves on a shoreline. Sometimes it comes from personal experiences, or external experiences like books, movies or stories people tell me. Sometimes it comes when I'm by myself and contemplating things... I'm not a very consistent writer. Whole months go by without getting one word down. So it varies.
Kelly Batten Apparently my best book ideas come in the middle of the night or whilst staring pensively at nature. "One Day You'll Find Me" I created from a title I came up with when sitting in our pebbled courtyard and I worked to come up with a storyline for it. I later changed the title, but that's where it stemmed from.
