I'm really enjoying Heart of the Samurai, and I can't wait to read Book 2. Why did you choose to write about samurai and Japan? Just curious.
Walt Mussell Kathleen, thank you. I'm in what feels like my seventh rewrite of Book 2 and I'm planning to send it out for an edit in May. The story shifts to Osaka and I lived outside of Osaka for two years, so I'm excited. (This may explain why I write about Japan. I spent four years there and fell in love with the history. In addition, my wife, whom I met there, is also Japanese and so it is a partial study of my my wife's ancestry.)

What are you currently working on?
Walt Mussell Currently, I'm working on the sequel to my July release The Samurai's Heart. I also have a completed historical novel (not related to Japan) that I'm trying to edit.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Walt Mussell Much of The Samurai's Heart takes place at Himeji Castle. Among the many roof tiles at the castle, there is one tile with a cross. Amazingly, this tile survived the persecution of Christians in the 17th century. This story is a secular novel, but the cross is the inspiration and plays a part in the story.
