Betsy L. Howell Truthfully, I don't think I experience "writer's block" in the same way some people do, that is, where they're unable to write at all. I definitely can feel restless and discouraged when I sit down with pen and paper, or at my laptop, but I always work through that to get at least something on the page. It might not be very good and it might (most likely will) be revised later, or cut, but if I have to grit my teeth through the experience, then that's what I do. Though the origins of the block are different for everyone, I feel like it comes from letting the "editor" part of one's mind take charge over the creative part. The editor can be very judgmental and often a total killjoy! There's a quote I read somewhere that goes something like, "Doubt is the condition of what we do; learn to withstand your own doubt." These words have encouraged me many times over the years.
