I try to visit a place my character might also visit or go to places that would help me research the locations in my book. This way I can kind of visualize what might happen or just get ideas for things my character might notice.

I read an article once about a Dutch painter who was going blind, and for years her story stuck with me. I thought about what I would do if I found myself in her shoes and as I began doing research Aubrey's story became something quite personal because, I too, felt like I was on this journey with her.
