Restlessly. Then I take a deep breath and remind myself that this "block" will pass. In order for it to pass, I have to relax, be open and have faith in the Universe. Sounds silly, but it's true. Becoming worried during writer's block is like trying to kick yourself out of a whirlpool. It does no good. The quicker you relax, the quicker the ideas will start flowing again.

It was March 17th. I was walking with my iPod listening to Elvis gospel when the entire story line popped into my head. I ran home and jotted down the main idea. The next day I booked my reservations for Elvis Week. I can't say I came up with the idea for the book, it felt delivered to me. And I've learned to just go with such "deliveries".

Music usually helps. Since my current book project has an underlying Elvis Presley theme to it, I love listening to The King. I hope his spirit is generous and comes through to me while I write. I like to think it does.
And what really helps... Having a full time job that is physically and emotionally taxing. When I have bad nights as a nurse, it makes me want to go home and write something really good to remind myself that there's more to me than just work. I don't ignore that passion of writing.

I have two projects in the works. An illustrated children's book, "A Message for Grandpa" (working title) will be self published next month. My first full non-fiction work, "Conducting The King" will be published in 2016, if all goes according to plan!

Stop talking about writing and write, even if it's only 10 minutes a day. Don't judge your writing, just write. It's a muscle and needs to be used to get stronger.

The places it takes you for research. This year I attended Elvis Week in Memphis, where I unexpectedly fell deeply in love with Elvis, the city of Memphis and... a man that I met there. Writing forces you to be open, as you never know how something will influence your writing.
