Kaira Rouda I've known since I was a child. The written word always was my preferred mode of communication. Thanks for the question!
Kaira Rouda Hi Alicia!
Sorry I'm just responding to your question. Thank you for reading Best Day Ever, and I'm glad you loved it. I do have another book out: The Favorite Daughter came out in paperback this month! And, my next suspense novel after that one, The Next Wife, is out on May 1st! I hope you'll give them a read. Thank you!
Kaira Rouda Yes, Angela, our family had a cottage at Lakeside. I have so many fond memories of that place and the area. I was a little worried the Lakeside Association would be angry I placed a suspense novel in their perfect community, but they were excited. I had the chance to lead a golf cart tour of the places in the book two summers ago. It was fabulous to be back. Thanks for the question!
Kaira Rouda Hi Kelly!
Sorry I just saw this question. And thank you for reading my stories! I hope by now you have read THE FAVORITE DAUGHTER - and I hope you enjoyed it! Stay tuned, I’m busy working on the next domestic suspense! Thanks for writing!

Kaira Rouda I'd love to write a sequel to BEST DAY EVER. I'll let you know if I have the opportunity to do it! My next novel will be domestic suspense/psychological suspense, too, but with an entirely new cast of characters and setting. Thanks for asking!
Kaira Rouda Hi Lisa! Paul is a creepy guy, that's for sure. And while he's not the easiest guy for a writer to keep in her head, I'm an author so it wasn't suffering, it was creating a hopefully captivating tale.
Kaira Rouda Hi Sherley!
If you enjoyed BEST DAY EVER, I think you would enjoy: The Dinner by Herman Koch, The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena, and anything by B.A. Paris! So glad you enjoyed the story!
Kaira Rouda How did she transition from writing women's fiction and contemporary romance to domestic suspense?

Easy. I'm fascinated by what goes on behind closed doors of seemingly perfect lives. That thought spans genres. But, my first love, since Nancy Drew and Jessica Fletcher, has been suspense. I'm thrilled to be writing in this genre again, and can't wait for BEST DAY EVER to release in September from Graydon House, the new Harper Collins/Harlequin imprint.

In the bestselling, page-turning vein of The Couple Next Door and The Dinner, Kaira Rouda weaves a gripping, tautly suspenseful tale of deception and betrayal dark enough to destroy a marriage…or a life.

“I glance at my wife as she climbs into the passenger seat, and I am bursting with confidence. Today will be everything I’ve promised her…and more…”

Paul Strom has the perfect life: a glittering career as an advertising executive, a beautiful wife, two healthy boys and a big house in a wealthy suburb. And he’s the perfect husband: breadwinner, protector, provider. That’s why he’s planned a romantic weekend for his wife, Mia, at their lake house, just the two of them. And he's promised today will be the best day ever.

But as Paul and Mia drive out of the city and toward the countryside, a spike of tension begins to wedge itself between them and doubts start to arise. How much do they trust each other? And how perfect is their marriage, or any marriage, really?

Forcing us to ask ourselves just how well we know those who are closest to us, Best Day Ever crackles with dark energy, spinning ever tighter toward its shocking conclusion.

Publishers Weekly just reviewed BEST DAY EVER, and wrote: In this slow-burning marital thriller, Rouda (The Goodbye Year) delivers a chilling, first-person portrait of a modern-day psychopath that delves into questions of how well we really know those closest to us. . . . . A tensely written, shocking book that will hold readers on the edge of their seats to the very last page.

I hope you'll consider adding BEST DAY EVER to your to-read shelf in celebration of #mysteryweek #bestdayever
Kaira Rouda Writing is what I've always wanted to do, it's what I've always done to express emotion and communicate. Inspiration is everywhere, and if it isn't, I'll go for a walk, hug my puppies or call a friend.
Kaira Rouda The fourth book in my first contemporary romance series, The Billionaire's Bid, releases on April 20th. That most likely will end the Putnam Family's saga on Indigo Island (although there is one more brother to write about). I've started a new romance series - more to come - and have two women's fiction novels hopefully to be published soon! Details *hopefully* soon!

I guess the simple answer is I'm working on a lot and I love it!
Kaira Rouda Write everyday, study our craft, and don't give up. Those are the secrets to success.
Kaira Rouda Try to avoid it at all costs! Ha! But when it hits, it hits and I've found the best solution is to not feel sorry for myself but to get outside, get some fresh air and sunshine and hope the block dissipates.
Kaira Rouda The best thing about being a writer is that it is something I've done all my life, and it's something I love. A blank page, a piece of paper, you name it, I'll fill it with words. And the best thing about being a novelist is that since I can remember it has been the career of my dreams! I can't believe I am finally writing books full-time! Oh, and did I mention, I love interacting with readers and other authors. What a great community we have!
