Hi Gina, I hope you're doing well! I know this might sound a little random, but I noticed that you’ve read "Becoming Indian: The Struggle Over Cherokee Identity In The Twenty-First Century", and I was wondering if you might be able to send me a copy of Chapter 5? I know it’s a big favor to ask, but I have a paper to write on the book, and I’m having trouble finding a copy anywhere. Thank you so much!
Gina Harris I read a library copy and don't have it anymore. I did have to use interlibrary loan, but see if your library has that service.

Gina Harris Probably Narnia. I like talking to animals.

Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?
Gina Harris She could not see anything that made her sense of danger logical, so she kept walking. She did not see every rose turned its head after her when she passed the bush.

What books are on your summer reading list this year?
Gina Harris Rules for Radicals, The Origins or Totalitarianism, The Corporation, Medical Apartheid, Cry the Beloved Country, and Triangle: the Fire that Changed America.

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?
Gina Harris Joe Harmon and Jean Paget from A Town Like Alice, for their strength and mutual support. It's not just that they love each other, but they think the world of each other and will go to the mat for each other.

How do you get inspired to write?
Gina Harris I am always imagining things that could happen, and how they would happen, and sometimes there are ones that keep going and evolving. Then it needs to be written.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Gina Harris I am constantly awed by how real it becomes, where the characters are their own people, and there are things that feel like they have to happen. It is almost as if you are discovering the story, and learning it, instead of writing it, and that amazes me.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Gina Harris It depends. If I am having trouble with what happens next, but know something that will happen later, I may write the scenes out of order. Sometimes forcing yourself to write even five lines is enough, but sometimes you really need to go out for a walk. Is the issue that you are scared, or that you are following the wrong track with a plot line? And it really just depends.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Gina Harris Write. Reading a lot of different things is important, and having creative ideas is important, but you lose it if you don't write it out. Even if you think it sounds terrible, keep writing, and go back and re-write later. It's the only way to progress.

What are you currently working on?
Gina Harris A screenplay about giant spiders attacking Portland.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Gina Harris I had a dream the night before going to a concert. The bass player was in the hospital after being attacked by vampires, and one came to finish him off. I tried to fight off the vampire and couldn't, but the lead singer came in to help. It's not unusual for me to get ideas in dreams, or to dream about vampires.
