Ian Todd The story of the first book, Parly Road, started in the summer of 1965. The current book has now reached a critical stage in the lives of the main characters, The Mankys and those affected by them in 1975.
Ian Todd Part biography, part imagination, with a healthy interest in social history. I was brought up in a part of Glasgow (The Towhead) that was steeped in history, but who the city fathers decided was surplus to requirements in the name of progress in the 1960s i.e. The Inner Ring Road network. Before 'The Clearances', the streets catered for a wealth of colourful characters and a way of life that had been in existence for hundreds of years. When I started writing Parly Road, I wanted to capture the human 'senses' of the place as well as the geographic location in the heart of Glasgow.
Ian Todd Elvis - The Sani Man. This will be my eighth book in The Glasgow Chronicles Series, following a wee bunch of feral kids from childhood in the tenement slums of Glasgow through to adulthood and gangsterism.
Ian Todd Books don't write themselves. Be prepared to put in the time and accept that for those around about you, you'll suddenly become anti-social. On the story front, write what you have some knowledge on and ensure your characters jump off the page of the readers. A lot of the feedback I have received via reviews on Amazon and Goodreads is how readers can relate to the characters in my stories.
Ian Todd You get to be anyone you want. You can go anywhere you want. You can fall in love with anyone you desire. I love that feeling of anticipation when you sit down and there's a bank screen in front of you waiting to be assaulted.
Ian Todd So far, I haven't suffered from writer's block, although I'm sure it will kick in at some stage. I have a very vivid imagination and I tend to know the direction I want to go in with my tales long before any of the words down. Also, because the stories are a series, I am usually speculating in my head, well in advance, of what I want the characters to become. For some, there is longevity within the journey, but for others, their time has come. Lol.
