I have a son currently serving in the Army and so I have always been interested in the effects that going on tour to various war zones has on our young men and women. I read Jake Wood's 'Among You: The Extraordinary Story of a Young Man Broken by War' and heard him being interviewed on various media. I'm also fascinated by the identities we choose to present to the world, and the idea of someone hiding behind a mask. Can you ever really know anyone? Can you ever really know yourself?

Being able to entertain people. It's a wonderful feeling to know that someone has been totally immersed in your story, and that the characters come alive to them. Also I love being able to work anywhere, and I love the mixture of solitude and sociability.

I read novels, research related topics on the internet, watch movies and television dramas, scan the newspapers and generally try and be sponge-like to everything around me. A little hint of something interesting can trigger a whole plot strand, if I'm lucky.
