My father claimed we were part Cherokee. I've never found any evidence of that, but he told me near his death so I'm inclined to feel her really believed that. He'd lived in Oklahoma.

I lived through some of the experiences, not the poisoning part, of course, but the experience of having my program, Women's Studies, threatened with defunding. I also experienced the coming together of a community that successfully resisted being cut from the university.
