Em Brooks I get to create my own worlds, solve my own created dramas, and not have to leave the house.
Em Brooks I'm trying to read various other authors in my genre so if you see a lot of those on my list, that's why.
Em Brooks The notification for my security camera went off at 3 am. At first there was nothing on my feed until this pale, drowned looking woman in a dress materialized on the screen, and looked directly up at the camera.
Em Brooks I am currently working on my fourth Allegheny Chronicles books.
Em Brooks Keep writing. Quit listening to your doubts and keep writing. The process doesn't happen overnight. It takes patience. MOUNDS of patience. And constant writing and rewriting. And then even more rewriting. You won't always get it right, and your writing won't always resonate with everyone, even your surefire-Future-Best-Seller idea. But just keep on writing. Even if you just write for yourself, something no one will ever see, just do it to develop you as a person and to find your own style of writing. But above all, just keep writing.
Em Brooks I'm usually most inspired when I am doing a mundane task, like the dishes or folding the laundry. As a mother, I don't get a lot of quiet time where I can let my brain wander or lock myself in the "I am an Author, let me WRITE!" World of silence or Zero distractions. But as I'm doing those chores, I'm looking out the window, watching the world go by, and my brain begins it's "What if..." scenarios. If I get one that puzzles me or inspires a plot, I'll pause to write it down and then I'm off writing again.
Em Brooks I try to write a little something every day. Sometimes I can write pages upon pages, other times I struggle to barely write a sentence so I just spend five minutes writing whatever comes to my mind. I never give myself "I HAVE to write this many words or pages." On the days I struggle to write, I just decide I'm meant to focus on other things and then go do them. Stepping away from my computer or notebook, getting outside, and living life cures it for me. Within a few hours or maybe days, my characters are talking to me again and I am back to filling pages.
