Rosanne Hawke Hi Izzy
I have one in my head for when someone in real life e.g. Asia Bibi gets released. But i suppose i could still write about Peacock Blue getting released even if it doesn't happen in real life. I would like to see her get out; they'd release her at night, whisk her away in a helicopter. It would dangerous and maybe the Canadian Embassy is involved. Sammy too. Unfortunately I can't imagine Australia offering Peacock Blue asylum -she'd end up in detention. Publisher's sales people rely on sales figures, so if enough people buy Peacock Blue they may entertain a sequel. Thank you for asking. X rosanne
Rosanne Hawke I don't believe in writers block. When I get 'stuck' it's a normal part of my process where I need to do more work on my character in my creative journal, or do more research to feed my plot ideas. If I have done a certain amount of outlining and getting to know my characters I will have a fair idea of where they need to be by the end. I also try not to confuse important life events with writer's block, e.g. when my mother died I didn't feel like writing, but I knew that wasn't writers block -- it was grief. Every writer's process is different but this is how I manage what many call writer's block. If I believed in such a thing I might use it as an excuse not to write.
Rosanne Hawke Taking readers with me to another world whether it be another country, as in Marrying Ameera, or to my own house as in The Messenger Bird. It's wonderful when readers are touched or enriched in some way by reading one of my books as I was /am when I read someone else's.
Rosanne Hawke To always have passion if you know this is what you are called to do. Then be persistent and never give up. Sometimes a story that is rejected comes to light again years later. Keep reading in your field and keep a watch on publishers' websites for guidelines and times to submit. Join a writers centre and attend workshops and learn all you can.
Rosanne Hawke I am inspired often by things that happen to me or my family, or I am inspired by my daughter, or by stories I hear or read in the news. Ideas are everywhere.
Rosanne Hawke A story about an immigrant girl called Kerenza from Cornwall who comes with with her family to the Mallee in South Australia in 1911. She doesn't like it at first but she has lots of adventures.
Rosanne Hawke I got the idea for Kelsey and the Quest of the Porcelain Doll from telling stories to my daughter when she was nine about a doll called Amy Jo. Recently she suggested I write a novel based on the stories.
