Sandy Coomer I'm working on a collection of linked poems that follow a young woman through a painful experience, taking in the viewpoints of her parents, friends, and neighbors.

I'm also working with the publisher of my next collection, Rivers Within Us, (scheduled to come out in Sept 2017) on marketing, collecting reviews on the poems, and establishing a poet/artist Facebook page.

Because I am also an artist and will be part of an art show in December 2016, I'm furiously working on new art every day.
Sandy Coomer I read. I take out a poetry book, one that has been sitting on the bookshelf waiting to be read, and I begin. While reading, I underline interesting phrases or words, make short notes on how the title works, or the musicality, or the imagery. Usually this is enough to spark an idea, one that takes me away from the poetry book I'm reading to the collection of poems I'm writing.

Another way to deal with writer's block is to take a walk and listen to music. Movement seems to free my mind from the panicky notion of self doubt. Music calms me and sometimes allows words to flow through the mood of the tune, the cadence, the lyrics. If you do this, don't forget to take a small notepad and pen with you, as you just might find a beginning line or a new snippet of images that could become the genesis of a new poem.
