Robert Dodds Hi Carmella, thanks for your interest. I had a look at the description of your memoir on Amazon - you've had an interesting life! I'll be in Spain again in the winter (from the end of October), so I'll get in touch via your e-mail address.
Robert Dodds Probably the most intriguing mystery in my life is how about ten percent of my socks end up as orphans. They go happily into the washing machine as pairs, and they emerge bereft and partnerless. It's like the Bermuda Triangle in there. As the plot for a book it's a little thin, but one could imagine an evil sock-eating washing machine - perhaps in cahoots with a posse of other delinquent white goods. 'Revenge of the Microwave'? 'The Devilish Dishwasher'?
Robert Dodds I'll go for Irma Prunesquallor and Professor Bellgrove from 'Gormenghast' by Mervyn Peake. I read it when I was about thirteen, and their awkward courtship had me in stitches.
Robert Dodds From a strange and wonderful painting: 'The Garden of Earthly Delights' by Hieronymus Bosch.
Robert Dodds I don't wait for inspiration. I sit down and work at it.
Robert Dodds Marketing my new novel 'The Garden of Earthly Delights'. If you've spent seven years writing a book, you have to devote a few months to trying to let the world know it exists. Marketing is much less fulfilling than writing however, and I suspect I'm not much good at it.
Robert Dodds Read the writers whose work has remained in print for fifty years or more.
Robert Dodds You don't earn enough to be tempted into extravagance.
Robert Dodds Play golf until it goes away.
