The Hater series is two trilogies that run (sort of) concurrently in time. One of Us and All Roads are the first two books in the second trilogy so can be read without knowledge of any of the other books in the series.
The two trilogies overlap and link quite a bit, but not in a way that'll spoil your enjoyment. There's a graphic on my site that might help explain:

Hi Michelle, thanks for your questions. It's great to hear that you've enjoyed the books. Glad you spotted the returning guest stars in the Final War novels! There were a couple of reasons for writing the second trilogy - first, the original Hater books told a very one-sided version of a very two-sided story. I thought it would be good to go back and look at events from a different perspective. Second - when the books were announced it looked like we were going to get a Hater TV series (a major studio was about to film a pilot which, for one reason and another, got cancelled before it got off the ground). I thought a series of the first trilogy wouldn't work that well and that it would need more twists and turns and characters. So I wrote the Final War books to wrap around the original Hater series and fill in the blanks. Hi Linda. Really sorry - I didn't realise I had questions unanswered! I've always been really interested in end of the world stories. I think it's probably the only time when people stop acting as society tells them to and begin showing their true colours. I think you'll see the best and the worst of people when it comes to the end times! And in answer to the second part of your question, yes! I'm currently writing a novel in which there are no zombies and the world isn't ending!

Did you see that he wrote a novella set in the same universe for the Infected Books 'Year of the Zombie' collection a while back? It was one of my favourite entries. Second - the names of the books have changed. The Other Half is now called All Roads End here, and The Last Summer has become Chokehold.

From a film, I'm afraid, not a book: Seth Brundle and Veronica Quaife from David Cronenberg's incredible remake of THE FLY. Brundle wanted his whole family (and a fly) to live in one body. How romantic is that? In all seriousness, it's a stunning movie and a great portrayal of an unintentional monster who doesn't realise what he's become until it's too late. Highly recommended.

The new trilogy actually came to be as a result of the film development work we've been undertaking. I started to look at what happened in the gaps between the original books. The first of the new novels (One of Us Will be Dead by Morning) is very different to the rest of the series: a more traditional horror novel which takes place during the early days of the Hater outbreak/ uprising/ awakening. It introduces a new main character.
The rest of the new series - The Other Half and The Last Summer - seem to me to wrap around Dog Blood and Them or Us. The Other Half overlaps with Dog Blood but looks at events from another perspective, while The Last Summer follows on directly from the previous book and fills a gap between Dog Blood and Them or Us.
Did that explanation make sense? I've probably made it sound more complicated than it actually is!
In terms of the movie, the producer and I are keen to retain the setting and tone of the original novels. We're in discussions at the moment so it's difficult to say much more. Keeping the UK setting was one of the main reasons I took the rights back from Hollywood!

There's no date for the release of the next Hater book yet (but I can tell you that it's called ONE OF US WILL BE DEAD BY MORNING). The paperwork is signed with the publisher, and I'll announce the release date as soon as I'm able.

It's going to be a little while longer, I'm afraid. The script is written, and we're hoping to go into production later in 2016. In the meantime, though, there will be new Hater books to enjoy. More news soon. Thanks for your question!

Great question. So pleased to hear how much you've enjoyed the Autumn books. For me, part of the thrill of telling these stories is being able to create the world they take place in. That said, it'd be a lot of fun to play with other authors' "zombie rules" from time to time.
It's not a book, but I don't think you can go wrong with George Romero's Living Dead world (though George has taken a few missteps with his more recent zombie movies).
I'm a big fan of The Walking Dead, not least because it's a serious, character-driven look at what would happen when the dead rise. If I was offered the opportunity to write a UK-based Walking Dead novel, I'd say yes in a heartbeat. People are people at the end of the day, but societies can be very different. I think it would be fascinating to try and imagine how people on my side of the Atlantic would survive in the nightmare world Kirkman et al have created.
