Lorry Lutz How did a girl living with an abusive alcoholic father, falling in love with a man who quit high school to work as a butcher, and had no access to funds emerge from college and grad school without a cent of debt?
Lorry Lutz The president of Christian for Biblical Equality encouraged me to write about the life of Katharine Bushnell ( 1855-1946). A literary agent suggested I write it as an historical novel. Daughters of Deliverance launched on December one, 2016, and the sequel. The Queen's Daughters is due out on September one, 2017. Be assured, however, that I do not write just because I'm asked -- but I must investigate the subject well and have a passion to tell the story. Otherwise not only I, but my readers, would be4 bored.

Lorry Lutz I guess it originally grew out of necessity. As a missionary in Africa I wrote newsletters, prayer letters, brochures and whatever was needed to keep our constituency in America informed about the work we were doing with African young people in Johannesburg. I earned my MA in Communications/ journalism when I was fifty. My professors encouraged me to write. Upon returning permanently to the USA in 1977 I followed up the kernel of an idea I'd started in a class on "How to write fiction." The Soweto Legacy" a novel about life under Apartheid, featuring a romance between an Afrkaans university student and a Zulu girl, served as catharsis for the pain I'd observed for more than twenty years.
Lorry Lutz I'm currently working with my publisher to release the second historical novel about Katharine Bushnell , The Queen's Daughters, on Sept. 1, 2017. I'm heading off to Kenya in April to help a retired missionary couple organize research and develop an outline to produce a book about their life and the founding of Daystar University. Started forty years ago in Nairobi, Daystar now has 2000 students.
Lorry Lutz I guess I'm old-fashioned enough to believe that life-experience helps develop a writer. Reading what others have written improves discernment. You find styles to follow and words to use-- and determine to avoid others' mistakes.
Lorry Lutz You can write wherever you please, whenever you please, about whatever you please. And at 89 I'm just as excited about my next project as I was thirty years ago.
Lorry Lutz I quit for the day and get myself moving and thinking about something else. Then the next morning I reread the chapter I've been working on, and can usually find it easy to carry on writing.

Of course, that assumes my heart has a passion for the story I'm writing.
