A good question! I do love all my characters, but as far as couples go, I'd have to go with Peggy Sue and the love that saved her, Billy, from Peggy Sue Got Pregnant.
Of course, I did enjoy writing Charlee and Dusty's love story in Scoundrels & Dreamers.
My next novel is YA so, of course, first love is always special too.
With other books, not mine, I can't really think of any couple that stands out. I enjoy women's fiction, so it's the female protagonist alone who becomes a favorite. Maybe that's because in many of those, couples don't always last ;-). Love is complicated - but that often makes great stories!

Reading. When I read good works, it always amps me up!
And attending writers conferences or new classes that interest me. I'm addicted to learning. Just because I've been a writer most of my life, doesn't mean I know everything about the craft. There are always new things to learn, or improve on.

After two novels, I'm going back to nonfiction. I have two book ideas, so doing some research and putting together a book proposal for one. Then I'll decide which one comes first.

Invest in your craft. That means taking classes, attending conferences, workshops or retreats. It's so important, and it keeps the enthusiasm alive. Plus, that's where you'll meet other writers. They will be your biggest cheerleaders.

Becoming friends with other writers. I love my writers' groups! Also, developing new stories, or finding ways to make a common story different.

Actually I don't believe in it! I feel writers are always writing in their heads, even when they are away from the keyboard, so I tell my students to always keep a recorder, or pen and paper, and write down ideas or thoughts about the story as soon as they come. So when you are at the keyboard, you know exactly what you want to write!

After I finished, Peggy Sue Got Pregnant, I realized these characters still had some living to do. I also thought it would be fun to relive the pop culture and music of the '80s and '90s. I also enjoyed introducing new characters. The main issue, of course, is that of Dylan, and what happens to him. That is all I can say about that as I don't want to release any spoilers! Thank you for your interest.
