Robert Bruce Cormack I heard it day by day, night by night, the slight but distinct pounding, like the beating of a heart. As it grew with my fears, driving me to pull up the floorboards, splintering wood, until I saw with my own eyes the horrible creature lurking down below in a shallow hole, the water around it murky and fetid, and to my wonder I knew it as only someone so intimate could know a sump pump.
Robert Bruce Cormack I'd go to Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree," and give that kid a spanking.
Robert Bruce Cormack I was once approached by aliens, but they were only asking for directions to McDonalds.
Robert Bruce Cormack "Respect Yourself" Stax Records and the Soul Explosion," Robert Gordon

"Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock and Roll," Peter Guralnick

"This Side of Paradise," F. Scott Fitzgerald

"The Cossacks" Leo Tolstoy
Robert Bruce Cormack I forgot to answer the second part of your question. There's enough of a back story in the second book to make it understandable without reading the first, but you still won't (I think, anyway) have a true feel for the characters. The second book is called "Otis Cries for You" and is told from Margot's perspective. It helps to know (from the first book) how far Margot's come from the first book. Margot's the true hero, in my opinion, and this extends to the third novel as well.

Robert Bruce Cormack The sequel's been delayed owing to a second printing of "Horse." With the second printing, I've been allowed to make some corrections (I had a bad editor). Both the second and third books in the trilogy are done. Hopefully, I'll have more news in the spring. I'll post something here as soon as I know.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers,
Robert Bruce Cormack
Robert Bruce Cormack I was an advertising copywriter for 37 years. You don't get writer's block. There isn't time. It's like the guy from Belfast who was asked: "Did you have any insanity in your family?" He replied: "We were too poor."
Robert Bruce Cormack Write like it's an obsession.
Robert Bruce Cormack I'm currently writing the follow-up to "You Can Lead a Horse to Water (But You Can't Make It Scuba Dive). It's going to be quite the eye-opener.
Robert Bruce Cormack I wait for my stomach to rumble. Starvation is a good motivator.
Robert Bruce Cormack It began as a short story about an old copywriter waiting for his pink slip. A publisher said it might make a good book.
