How do you get inspired to write?
Mike Bond Life is so short and so exciting -- often tragic also. That's all the inspiration I need.

What are you currently working on?
Mike Bond A pure commercial thriller, similar to The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, but in a different context. How humans choose between good and evil.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Mike Bond Getting to think about the really big questions -- the mysteries of life, the adventure and the unknown. As Camus said, writers get to live twice, and actually I get to live the life of every character and every place I write.

How do you deal with writer’s block?
Mike Bond Don't usually get troubled by it. I have too many books I want to write.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Mike Bond Throw out the window all the foolish theories you've been fed: the Joseph Campbell myths, the personal arc of each character, the engineering construction of each chapter, and all the other blather that is taught in creative writing classes and by editors who have never lived anywhere but New York City. Write about life, deep exciting unforgettable life. Please don't write about yourself; nobody cares. Write about life.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Mike Bond The first Pono Hawkins book (Saving Paradise) was so successful I decided to write a series featuring Pono. He's a Special Forces vet, surfer, and environmentalist, very committed to his friends, other vets, his country, and animals. He loves women but is terrified of monogamy. The book is set in the grossly corrupt political and corporate world of Maine, which may cost him his life. I like to write books that are so exciting people can't put them down, and which they long remember.
