Heather Reilly I always have more than one book that I am working on at a time. That way if I am stuck in writing one, I can switch and work on the other. I write in different genres with a completely different feel too, so it's an easy way to get un-stuck.
Heather Reilly Doing what you love. I make time for this "job", even though it doesn't sustain me financially. (Not souly). Mostly, I love to see how excited readers get about the ideas that I lay down on paper. I also love languages, and learned 7 growing up. In my fantasy series, I have created my own language, complete with it's own writing. This has been very enjoyable and fun!
Heather Reilly Find the best time to write for you. There will be specific times of day where you just find that you are more productive. Try to craft your writing schedule around when you are most productive. Also, keep files on all of your locations, characters etc, so you can always refer back to them as your book(s) progress. Lastly, you will NEED an editor. It doesn't matter if you have perfect English skills and a degree to prove it. Everyone needs a fresh set of eyes to edit their work. I have been a professional editor for over 25 years, and I still have others do at least one edit.
Heather Reilly I am currently working on a book that I pick at between other novels in my series. I have just been hired to write for another series, so I am in the research phase for that at the moment.
Heather Reilly The short answer is: I don't. I have a strict writing schedule, and I stick to it, whether I feel like writing or not. I do have a ritual though, which does help to get the creative juices flowing. First thing in the morning, with coffee!
Heather Reilly My most recent book was actually part of a series, so it was already planned. I did draw some information/ideas from the previous book though, as I like to scaffold plot points and characters.
