As often happens, the idea for my latest book, which just became available for presale, has been simmering for a couple years.
Element One: I was a musician long before I became a writer, and many Decembers I've spent in the bowels of a one theater or another, playing oboe in performances of The Nutcracker. So the 'inside story' of a performance is something I know something about.
Element Two: One of my SFR series features a future in which alien humans from an alternate Earth, and my mind toyed with the idea of the first ever performance of The Nutcracker for and by the aliens. Let's just say nothing goes as planned. I've played "Alien Contact for an Enhanced Nutcracker" for romance and humor.
