Joe Carvalko The journey to become the writer I always had in mind is yet to be completed, and it seems at this point it may take a lifetime. But, far in advance of that idealized end point, I learned to write well enough to attract a body of readers. I think that you must believe that you have a story to tell, one that is unique to you. And, believe that you can tell that story better than anyone. In time, often sooner than you think, especially if you make writing as much a part of your life as sleeping and eating, you get to a comfortable place.
Joe Carvalko I don't panic. I turn my attention to something I want to learn, a piece of music, a foreign language, some skill set that I might use in writing, but that is not itself a writing project. In a few days, sometimes a few weeks, I am back in the swing of things.

Joe Carvalko Many of us are told from an early age that the most vexing questions about life are shrouded in mystery, but I have discovered that in the real world, truth is not a mystery; it lives openly and objectively; its logic leads to "the true," its art to beauty, science to facts, morality to goodness, and humanity to empathy. It's in the context of this perspective, that I am motivated to "report" the truth of what I see each and every day.
Joe Carvalko It's a compilation of poetry written over at least a decade, but culled especially from my life, from childhood to the present.
