Anna Christian I'm presently reading The Assassin's Daughter, a fascinating novel by I.J.Parker. I' not sure what I'll be reading during the summer- possible another Elizabeth George novel, Just One Evil Act. It's over 717 pages so it may take the entire summer. I'll also be working on another Bobby and Sonny Mystery, "The Case of the Missing Snake."
Anna Christian I get inspired sometimes when I read works by other people. Sometimes simple situations I'm involved in, or overhearing conversations, or observing people and thinking "what if?"
Anna Christian For many years, I've kept different types of journals, One for chronicling significant incidences, one for observations, one for traveling, even one for gardening. Those journals are filled with ideas which I can use whenever I come upon a dry spell. All these ideas don't necessarily result in something publishable. In fact I've developed very few. But the idea is to write through the block. Don't give up.
Anna Christian Every family has secrets. Maybe a cousin who disappears after his mother dies. Or an aunt who falls out of a window during a party. Was she pushed or was it an accident? Start with one secret, create a character that perhaps discovers the secret and wants to know what happens.
Anna Christian I don't have a favorite fictional couple. I have characters that I like a lot. I love well-rounded complex characters dealing with intriguing conflicts.
Anna Christian My latest novel, Then Sings My Soul started out as a novel about a 17 year old girl who wanted to be a professional singer. It was inspired by one of my high school students. The novel morphed in a story about a family which in turn became a mystery because I love mysteries.
Anna Christian I love to write and I love it when readers respond to something I've written.
Anna Christian I would say keep a journal which will help generate ideas and improve your observation skills. I would also recommend reading books you enjoy and then finding out what skills did the author used to engage you. Write, write, write daily, even if it is a sentence.
Anna Christian I am currently working on revising a manuscript I wrote a while ago.
