I wrote you before and you answered and told me you had been in hospital and would be getting them out soon have they been sent yet ? Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Ruth Coates Diamond My most recent book, "WAY UP IN THE AIR HAIR" is about bullying. When I was in grade school I was bullied and my son also was bullied in kindergarten. I was actually in his classroom when this occurred. I was a volunteer at this time helping his teacher. I heard one young lady say my son was fat. I heard this but kept my cool and spoke with the teacher. She being the wonderful teacher that she was, she called the young lady aside and spoke with her. When I heard her say this to my son I just wanted to cry. This is where the idea for my most recent book comes from.

How do you get inspired to write?
Ruth Coates Diamond I really don't need anything to inspire me. I love to write and create new stories. It is what I write about that inspires me. I love writing inspirational stories for children that inspire them to make the right choices or change someones life. There are so many real life experiences we all go through as children that if we just look back on them now as adults and ask ourselves the question...How could I make that better for someone else? This is how I get inspired.

What are you currently working on?
Ruth Coates Diamond Right now I am considering an ending for "ONE LEAF ON THE TREE." This is the book I have writers block. It is about a young lady who has trouble dealing with the loss of her hair as a result of chemotherapy.

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?
Ruth Coates Diamond If you want to write, just do it. Start with writing a day to day journal. Even these simple day to day entries can be useful when trying to come up with an idea for a book.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Ruth Coates Diamond I have always wanted to write. I didn't start writing though until my son graduated from high school. It took 19 years to finally figure out that the best stories for me to write about were the ones from real life situations. The best thing about being a writer is the idea that I am creating something for someone else to hopefully learn from and enjoy.
