For the longest time I have joked about writing a fantasy novel that makes fun of ancient named-swords. A book where the swords were the main characters and the people who wielded them didn't really matter, either because they changed hands a lot or because every chapter spanned a hundred years and the characters didn't live that long. (Is it a metaphor for corporate personhood? Probably not.)
That novel never came together, but it helped to form the world where Wyrmwind is set, a place where writing doesn't exist and ancient artifacts hold a lot more sway than people realize. I dictated the first chapter on a walk, years ago. Then I drew the map, which eventually became so crammed with text that it became a story outline. Finally, one year during NanoWriMo, I sat down and wrote the first draft.
That was about the same time that I went full time with my editing, so I've been sitting on it, going back to polish a chapter here and there. Now it's nearly finished, and the sequel is coming along nicely.

I'm currently editing another author's manuscript. It's pretty fulfilling to have a hand in all of these different stories. Like being the night janitor for a dozen little Narnias.
But when the day's done, I'm going back and adding another poem to the Wyrmwind Tales before I release book one, sometime at the end of this year.

Learn to write for yourself. Write what you would most like to read. And learn to enjoy writing, more than "having written."

Writer's block isn't real. I can work through it when I want to. Life however, is very real and often gets in the way if you let it.
