I'm so glad you enjoyed the book! I'm sorry it has taken me this long to see your question! It is so exciting that you are a doula! I agree, you don't see the term in fiction often. I'm not a doula but I've had two out of three births at home and a doula was present for all of them. My mother also acts as a doula when I have my babies.

The order of the books is definitely out of wack on Goodreads. I intend to get a hold of a Goodreads librarian.
As for the ending, the result is in the title. "The Co-Parent." If they ended up as a couple, it would defeat the dynamic of the story I was trying to tell. They would just be parenting. Each book in this series is dedicated to real life scenarios that people face in their relationships. I never want to sacrifice the relatable realism. Some of these stories will end with a traditional success, and some won't, making them more individual to the readers and their own personal lives.
The story is about their romance, which results in a child, but not a lasting sort between them. It is now transferred to the child, by being co-parents and their best selves for her.
However, the book does have what is called a "Non-traditional" HEA. Remember, the face of romance changes with our time. Where in historical romance (original romance), a happily ever after would require a guy or the perfect relationship, now, the more common outcome is self-acceptance that will lead to the right person. Instead of settling for the potential your mate has, it's about either loving them for who they are or having the strength to move on.
Where my female lead has found her fulfillment in continuing to further her education, her career, and being a mother. I hint at a possible romance as well.
Gabe is actually in a rebound relationship, built on his desire to grow, but growth can't be forced.
In the end, I do plan to give Gabe and Brianna another book down the road, but not now. The upside is, The Co-Parent will be released in a second edition at one point with a Q&A from me covering the most common questions, especially this one, in more depth.

The next installment in the series will likely be released early 2019, but possibly sooner. There are three books started, and any of them could be next since the series doesn't need to be read in a particular order.
However, the four that are available now, The Divorce, The Friend Zone, The Co-Parent, and The Significant Other are all being re-released as second editions with bonus chapters, Q&A sections, and such. I'm done with The Divorce and it's available now. I'm presently working on Friend Zone, but all four should be done before the end of the year.
