Thom Mark Shepard These days it is exchanging emails with other writers. I was shocked and delighted to find so many excellent writers who have chosen to self-publish or who have published through small, independent presses. Their books are at least as compelling as anything coming out of the mainstream press. Having my own book out there is like having a kind of ticket of admission to this big, wonderful party.

I am also working on a collection of stories and poems and an essay, a kind of sampler of my writing.
Thom Mark Shepard Many years ago I wrote an adventure story for my half-brother Joe, titled, "Terror in My Own Backyard." Its cast of characters included our family, his friends, and of course, himself and me. As my own son entered middle school, I thought it would be interesting to re-visit that original story, update it for a different generation. I intended to work on it for just a couple of months, but it turned into a major project lasting several years.
