I read a book a while back about scene construction. The author basically said that all stories are a collection of scenes and each scene has seven parts. If you're stuck, think about where you are in the seven parts of a scene and it will guide you to where you should go next. The seven parts to a scene are: goal, conflict, disaster, reaction, reflection, decision, action.

The idea came from a forum post about the film Flight starring Denzel Washington. Those of us in the profession hated the film because of the many inaccuracies and the lack of effort on the filmmakers to get it right. I happened to read a post that mentioned how the filmmakers would have been better off telling the true story of TWA 841, which also involved a rollover of an airliner.
