Just finished the sequel to "Echoes of Avalon," my historical fantasy of an Irish Knight and Crusader who ends up on the Isle of Avalon, fighting evil while fighting his personal demons. My next work will be a departure, something more steampunkish. Think vampires in the trenches of WWI.

The gratification of knowing you have created something that will possibly outlive you. It is your legacy. Plus, however big or small a writer you are, people tend to treat you with some measure of awe and reverence. That is a cool thing.

I stare at the computer screen until it comes to me. Or I go for a walk around the block and mutter to myself, garnering all kinds of concerned looks from passer-byers. If that doesn't work, I let it percolate for a couple days and do it again. I'm confident the answer will always come and I'm often surprised at the creative answer that comes, compliments of the Muse.

It was the genre I grew up reading, and so the stories building up in my mind were inspired by fantasy. Ironically, I don't read a lot of it these days. I think my next project will be more steampunk-ish, and not so "epic" in length.
