Beth Lyons For "The Soul Thief" I wanted to write an adventure for my favorite Dungeons and Dragons character, Indira the cleric. The story spun out from there. I took the seed of Indira's backstory and expanded.

Very quickly I realized that she wasn't the main character (which surprised me), but Teaka the thief is a great main character, and she can carry the story because she's got her own challenges.
Beth Lyons I try to be gentle with myself -- there are always things to do related to writing. If I'm not feeling especially creative then I can edit, or if I'm bored with editing, I could try a flash fiction or Reddit writing prompt -- something quick and non-committal. And worst case, I stop pushing and pick up a book or comic. Nothing wrong with a small break from writing.
Beth Lyons I love telling stories, and I love finding ways to expand a theme or idea in a way that's entertaining. In a small way "The Soul Thief" is a bit of a self help book -- Teaka's journey is partially a quest to love herself.
Beth Lyons I am expanding on a SciFi novella I wrote called "The Earth Hypothesis" (I publish SciFi as EA Lyons). It's fun to explore a different landscape and more challenging because some parts of the story take place on Earth in the near future so I have to fact-check myself.
