Curt Simmons When I was in graduate school there was a young Middle Eastern woman in one of my classes. She was very intelligent, although her English was quite poor. When we were assigned to do a project together I discovered she had recently come to the U.S. from Iran. Whenever I asked her about her home, tears would well and she would say very little if anything. She was always quiet, but she seemed very nice. I remember thinking she had a sort of regal quality about her. Once, outside of class, I happened to see her standing in front of a large picture window in the Arts building. As she looked out across the campus onto the winter landscape, she had the saddest faraway look I think I've ever seen. I didn't occur to me until much later that this was shortly following the fall of the Shah of Iran in 1979. I don't think she was part of his family, but even now I wonder about her story. Was she connected to the royal family somehow? Whatever happened to her? It still haunts me to this day.
Curt Simmons I'm have to say Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy because his proof of love is so selfless and perfect. And because of the iconic worldview change that each undergoes.
Curt Simmons Fortunately, as a narrator, I don't have to deal with writer's block. However, it is one of the biggest reasons I have such respect for writers. I know every writer deals with it and it is grueling work. In fact, knowing how difficult writer's block can be is probably the main reason I have not given writing a serious attempt. Maybe someday. At this point in time though, I'm still in love with performing the writer's work. I love to tell stories, simple as that. I think I got it from my grandfather, Abbot, who loved telling hunting stories.
