A little history: I took a story in my first book, Silent Girl, and expanded it into the novel Stony River. From that novel, I took a character, Linda Wise, and gave her a book of her own: Becoming Lin. I did that because I felt I had left her woefully prepared for adult life at the end of Stony River. I was curious: would she break away from her overprotective parents and build an independent life? How long would the sexual assault she suffered when she was fourteen haunt her?
