Christopher Valen I get this question a lot. My best advice is to read widely in the genre in which you want to write. Then be disciplined. Your novel will never be finished if you write only when you feel like it.
Christopher Valen I've never experienced writer's block. I have reached points in my mystery novels where I've gotten "stuck" for a while, but it's more a question of direction than an inability to write. Hemingway suggested that a writer should "always leave a little in the well." I try to follow that advice. Quit for the day when you know where you'll being tomorrow. Never write yourself out.
Christopher Valen The idea for Death's Way came from the increased heroin trafficking in the Twin Cities and my interest in our large Hindu population and their belief in reincarnation.
