Lori Jenessa Nelson Hi Jimmy! You can read a lot of unedited poems and blog posts by visiting www.lorijenessanelson.com. There's a ton of stuff on there. :)
Lori Jenessa Nelson Hi! I am well. How are you? Do you mean what do I think of love and friendships found on the internet? I think that they are just as real as any other relationships. It is not where you find the love, but what it means to you. Hope that heels. :)
Lori Jenessa Nelson While taking poetry classes at college, I was required to write an epistolary prose poem. This first poem is actually included in the Dear Lover, poetry collection ("If you hear howling in the daylight.."). In order to become more comfortable with prose poems, I started writing a lot of them to experiment with the form. Those experiments eventually sparked Dear Lover.
Lori Jenessa Nelson I like to sit and think for long periods of time and let my mind wander until something interesting crosses my mind that I feel that I should talk about. Sometimes I will also set a timer for ten minutes and just write as fast as possible until it goes off. I believe forcing the mind into a "panic" can spark ideas.
Lori Jenessa Nelson Write about everything and become a great observer. Become a hoarder. I've written couplets that I'd reread every few weeks and eventually turn them into full length poems.
Lori Jenessa Nelson The next collection is entitled As I Write to You. After the fiasco of flailed and failed relationships in Dear Lover, I'm going to talk in depth about a single relationship, and explore the ups and downs of what comes when you find someone you can stick to.
Lori Jenessa Nelson Being able to say the same thing five different ways. Everything feels like an exploration and as a writer, you can talk about anything, and you see connections where other people didn't. That's what makes us unique. We can see connections and share them with others.
Lori Jenessa Nelson I do freewrites. Whenever inspiration doesn't just come to me, I'll maybe go sit in a park or at a coffee shop and write about the people I see, the dogs being walked, the way I feel sitting alone in public, most anything, Then, I'll type it up in a document and save it for later and reread it from time to time and cull out anything that I find significant.
