Sarah Brennan For my last published book, Storm Whale, the inspiration came from my childhood holidays on the beach in northern Tasmania, which were frequently wet and windy, even in summertime, and when we sometimes found whales stranded on the beach. It used to break my heart to see them suffering and I always wanted to save them. So this story is what I would have done, if my mum and dad had let me!
Sarah Brennan I've just finished writing my latest Chinese Calendar Tale for next Year of the Dog, which is now in production, so I'm having a bit of a breather at present!
Sarah Brennan Read, read, read as much as you can, and as widely as you can, including the very best literature your librarian can recommend, and avoid digital screens as much as you can - they are very effective imagination killers.
Sarah Brennan As a children's author, I have to say I love the writing process - you really do go to another place, somewhere "outside" the day to day world. But I also love the constant opportunity to work with kids! They make me laugh, and inspire me every day.
Sarah Brennan Story planning is an author's best friend and I tend to plan out my stories in some detail before I start writing the first draft. This way I always know what's happening next!
