How does someone make it as a writer?

I really wanna get into the Forgotten Realms universe in a big bad way, and read all the comics for Avatar the Last Airbender so I can finally watch Korra.

My MOST recent book, Princess Myrandae and the City of Tomorrrow, I got the idea from Thor Rangarok kinda. I had characters from different books I wanted to try to crossover even though they were on different worlds, so I came up with a Thor Rangnarok like plot to throw them together on an alien world, to have to save a princess from her evil brother. It's fun.

All my life I've wanted to make it as a writer and write for an audience that eagerly awaits the continued adventures of my characters. And I fear more than anything that I will never make it, that I will die alone and unloved and only once long gone will people find my works (somewhat like Van Gough) and they'll read my books, and they will turn to one another and say "Not great. Really amateur work. Feels like I'm reading Fan Fiction" and then my name will be lost down the anals of history.

I'm actually not much of a drinker. But I do smoke a lot of pot, listen to music, push through it. NO writing is perfect, sometimes its good just to get something... anything on the page.
