The best thing is that my curiosity — that little voice that always asked, "Why?" from the time I was a small child — is an asset. I have an excuse to go up and talk to perfect strangers and ask them some of the most intimate details of their lives. There's no greater profession for me out there.

I actually developed the idea based on travels with my father, who has always been very frugal. In the book I tell several humorous stories about how far he has gone to save a buck while on vacation. Hence, I like to say that my DNA is encoded for sniffing out savings.
