Almost anything can set me off. A song lyric, how a tune makes me feel, a overheard conversation or news item. I do try and stay focused on one thing at a time. I did used to keep two novels on the go at one time (three once), but now I am usually editing one book while writing the next in the series and that's more than enough to keep my busy.

The initial idea for Marked popped into my head when I saw a chap on breakfast TV talking about exposing fake psychics. I started writing the book and after the first few pages I had a humdinger of a nightmare, which changed everything.

Just write. Don't get bogged down by getting it perfect - it's better to write a complete imperfect novel than one perfect chapter. Once you have the bare bones and story arc down on paper then you can craft it into a masterpiece.

I must admit I have never had this problem. Whenever I've got stuck I've either written a scene to come later in the book that's been sort of spinning around in my head or I make myself write one sentence, and then one paragraph and if I manage that I'm usually up and running again.
