I had my first personal essay published in 2006. I waded through several rejections before I landed that byline because I didn't know where to find viable magazines for my voice and I didn't really understand where my writing fit into the world. I wrote "Writing Short Stories & Personal Essays" so that other writers wouldn't have to stumble through the weeds like I did.
