Johan M. Dahlgren It's coming along nicely! I got a thousands words written today between changing some blinds, putting up a baby gate and clearing out part of the garage. So it should be ready some time next century.

Johan M. Dahlgren I get ideas for stories all the time. When I talk to friends, when I read horrible stuff in the paper, when I see a half bad movie that could have been so much better with a few simple tweaks.

Getting an idea is not enough.
But when you get TWO ideas, and they collide and have a bastard love child, THAT's when true stories are born.

Writing do "guess so", squelch. Just like grape.

If you have something you need to write, just do it. You will love it!
If you don't have something you need to write, don't.
You'll just end up owning a bunch of overpriced fancy pens and half empty leather bound note books.

And then you get to blow stuff up and save the world.

It's just like being a kid with his Heman action figures and a Lego city (yes, I'm THAT old). The only difference is you get paid for it. And you don't risk stepping on those darn Lego bricks. Amazing!

Going out for a bit is the best way to solve problems for me, and that is not exclusive to writing.
When I face a difficult coding problem at work, I find that more often than not, the solution will pop up by itself after going out for lunch or having a cup of coffee with some colleagues.
Don't underestimate the power of a Swedish "fika".
Johan M. Dahlgren I'm writing the sequel to Under a Dark Sky, currently titled Under a Winter Sun.
I can't tell you much more than the basic setting, which is the Goliath home world of Nifelheim, and that some pretty big issues will sail up for the heroes to handle.
Johan M. Dahlgren It's based on ideas and questions I've come up with over the years, along the lines of

Question: Who will we send into space as the first colonists?
Answer: The ones we don't want at home.

Question: Will there be religious fractions and Life of Brian-esque civil war between what to outsiders look like the same group of people in the future?
Answer: Of course there will.

Question: What if there really IS some kind of mysterious dark cabal running the world?
Answer: Yes, what if...
