Thank you! All kinds: I revisited the country and a lot of the sites I wrote about, I read lots of books and journal articles, talked to my Hungarian friends, read travel narratives from British citizens visiting Hungary in the 19th century, translations of folk tales, etc. Research is one of my favorite parts of writing.

I lived in Hungary for a while in my 20s and fell in love with the country. It was fun to revisit for the book. (Also, sorry for the late response! I only just saw this.)

Oh, I have lots! I love a good romance. But one of my very favorite is Eugenides and Attolia in Megan Whalen Turner's Thief series. Lovely, heart-wrenching, and sometimes brutal--one of the best enemies to lovers stories I've seen. (Runner ups: Wentworth and Anne in Persuasion; Gabriel and Rachel in Archangel; Harry and Corlath in the Blue Sword; Natasha and Daniel in The Sun is Also a Star).

Excellent! I hope it works out. :)

Getting to see the imaginary worlds in my head take shape, seeing characters become fleshed out and real. It's like solving this immensely complicated but very satisfying puzzle.
But the next best thing about being a writer is other writers and readers--the book community is wonderful and supportive and I have gotten to meet so many remarkable people.
