Elar Ericsson Write! Writing comes differently to each person, but whether it is easy or difficult, it must be something you love to do. Don't force it, but practice, even when you are not inspired. Writing is a discipline that must been exercised. And lastly, don't compare yourself to others - you are unique!
Elar Ericsson Inspiration often hits me out of the blue. Simple ideas often come to me unexpectedly, and I have learned to write down the basic idea or title that I am thinking of right at the moment. One night I was lying in bed pondering an idea, struggling to make any sense of it, and at 3:00 am suddenly an entire rough draft flowed through my mind. I quickly got up and wrote it all down. That moment provided 90% of the story! But most importantly, discipline is key. I am often uninspired until I start the actual process of writing. Once I start, I find the momentum grows. If you don't start you will never finish!
Elar Ericsson I find that writers block can be dealt with in several ways. One is to simply walk away, see the world around you for what it is, and don't try to force inspiration. Another way is to keep regular notes of basic story ideas that you can refer to when you are feeling stuck, even if they are for completely new stories. Lastly, I often just write ideas, not full story structure or wording, but simple ideas of where I think I want a story to go. Those simple ideas can often lead to unexpected detailed sentences and pages that finally come to life when you least expect it.
Elar Ericsson For me, the best things about being a writer are being creative, using that creativity to tell stories that have never been told, and seeing a child excited and engaged in that story and hearing them exclaim at the end of the story "again!"
Elar Ericsson I am currently finishing the next two books in the "Jimey the Woodpile Mouse" series, which is a trilogy. I have also written a new book, which is not yet complete, about a brand new character - a very unique giraffe!
Elar Ericsson This book, "Jimey the Woodpile Mouse", was inspired by an actual event, watching my good friend's cat chase a mouse around their woodpile in the beautiful mountains of Vermont. But the message is much deeper and came to me as I pondered the ageless feelings of home, security, and love.
