Reed Tait I leave it for awhile, sometimes start on another story, sometimes read another book, later I can go back and work again... This usually works, not always. Sometimes you just have to wear it out.
Reed Tait Having enough time to write. On the other hand, the Worst thing is NOT having enough time to write what I want to write. As always, real life gets in the way, however it is real life that provides the material to write about for me, so I try to use that.
Reed Tait Most of my ideas come from friends, family, just everyday life. People are very interesting if you just watch and listen. I like to write about other peoples' lives and how they live, manage daily problems, what they do for fun, and how they cope with stress.
Reed Tait We read a story of a great grandmother in the family who wrote about her life in the 1880s. We were so impressed by the differences in her life as compared to our lives and the many changes that took place from that time to the present.
We decided to record a few things from our own lives in the 1950s and 1960s, greatly fictionalized those, and invented a large number of new ones to be able to write the story of Delia and Essie.
Reed Tait Working on a collection of short stories.
Reed Tait Work work work, don't give up. Send it out and send it out again. Some publishers will offer criticism, most of it very helpful. Take it all into consideration. Then polish, rewrite, rework, and send it out again. Never give up.
